Steven A. Mier, MPH

Mr. Mier is the exercise and emergency response coordinator for CIDRAP's BioWatch program. He has more than 17 years of experience in public health, both with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and at the local level, most recently serving as the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness for the City of Chicago.

His most recent work has been in the area of coordinated preparation and response to large-scale disasters and emerging infectious diseases with a focus on the dissemination of local and national stockpiles of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and equipment, as well as operations section chief for public health surge events, including natural disasters and large disease outbreaks. Additionally, he managed the Cities Readiness Initiative, BioWatch, Pandemic Influenza and Chempack operational programs for the City of Chicago. Management of these programs included the development of tactical response plans and training as well as the design, execution, and evaluation of tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises. The strengthened response capabilities that resulted from these exercises earned multiple commendations for the City of Chicago.

Mr. Mier received his BA from Texas Lutheran University and his MPH from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a member of the Medical Reserve Corps in Chicago.
